ABOUT THIS ROLE
The Audible Books Content Acquisitions Team owns the full cycle business relationships for new deal generation for our audiobooks program as well as for Audible Originals. As a member of the team you will help execute our acquisition strategy for audio rights with authors, agents, publishers, and recognized IP brands. You will support and contribute to a team that executes a high volume of complex dealmaking and will independently negotiate a number of deals. You also will be responsible for special projects that will help refine our strategic goals. You will partner closely with members of the team and with the Content Services and Legal teams, and will work closely with external agents, authors, and publishers.

ABOUT YOU
You are an experienced negotiator with the ability to close a high volume of deals for book based and audio original content with literary agents, authors, writers and publishers. You are a strategic developer with the responsibility for acquiring content that will impact Audible’s overall business. You are a trusted relationship manager conducting full lifecycle deal generation, from evaluating submissions, to making offers, to working with internal partners on release strategy for each title.

As a Director, Content Acquisition & Development (North America), you will...
- Work to prepare projects for internal support and valuation through collection of data and preparation of budgets, P&Ls, and proposed deal and creative terms
- Structure and negotiate deals with authors, agents, publishers and other content creator partners
- Grow and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential partners, such as authors, agents, managers, and publishers
- Manage and execute high-volume deal flow against specific metrics
- Track and communicate deal terms within the organization and provide for first line of enforcement of deal terms if necessary
- Work closely with other key stakeholders within Audible, such as Editorial/Creative, Marketing, PR, Content Services, and Content Creation
- Coordinate with members of the content teams at Audible to maintain consistency in messaging and policy
- Passionately work on the evolution and consumption of audio content and storytelling

Basic Qualifications

- Experience negotiating complex agreements with a firm understanding of legal terminology and reasoning
- Experience with data/analytics and using data to make decisions
- Experience in the traditional book space with content with content acquisition and/or rights licensing experience across popular genres
- 5+ years of publishing, audio, or entertainment industry deal negotiation experience
- Experience with intellectual property rights
- Verbal and written communication skills with experience translating complex concepts and ideas across the organization
- Experience working across cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications

- Previous experience in the audio business, acquiring or licensing audio rights
- Passionate about storytelling, the evolution of audio, and consuming audio content
- Experience in project management
- Skilled using Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Salesforce, and company-wide sales and project management tools

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $130,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $215,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
