What is Audible's culture like? expand_more
At Audible, we are driven by a shared passion for storytelling, and by the belief that stories have the power to create understanding, connection and change. Not only do we bring that power to life for our millions of customers around the globe, but in our surrounding communities and within our workspaces, as well.
We’ve codified Audible’s culture of caring, innovation and curiosity in Our People Principles, which drive everything we do here. Our principles encourage employees to imagine freely, draw inspiration from culture and technology, and create positive impact in our communities and at work.
We also empower continuous learning, from our generous tuition reimbursement benefit, to mentorships and training opportunities, to a “test and learn” culture that allows our teams to confidently try bold things, even if they may not work out exactly as planned.
And just as Audible shares stories from the full spectrum of human experiences and identities, we value and celebrate that spectrum at work, too. Every day, we dedicate ourselves to creating an environment that empowers our employees’ sense of inclusion and belonging. Our employee-led Impact Groups — our version of employee resource groups — create spaces for us to see ourselves reflected and celebrated for who we are, inspiring us to express our true selves, and our robust well-being program, WE@Audible, helps create a holistic support system for better health and resilience for all of us.
Audible has a truly global culture, with hubs and customers on multiple continents, and we have the benefit of collaborating and learning from each other as we work together to revolutionize the audio space.

What's the current tech stack Audible uses? expand_more
As part of our deep customer obsession, and as pioneers in the audio storytelling space, we are always building cutting-edge features and experiences to make our customers’ lives better. To do this, most teams at Audible use Java programming language across Audible's services, website, libraries, and mobile applications. We also leverage a variety of open-source and internal frameworks, as well as Amazon Web Services. Our web applications are built on Amazon's framework.
When it comes to working, our teams follow agile practices, organizing development into two-week sprints and collaborating across cross-functional teams. We believe it’s a highly efficient process for imagining and inventing before our customers even ask, and moving fast to make our amazing ideas real.
-

Our best work — our truly moving-the-needle work — has always been done together, where we can improvise, inspire each other, and get help meeting new challenges. To create that beneficial, collaborative environment, Audible has a "hub-forward" approach, meaning employees are generally expected to work from their assigned hub five days per week.
We are globally inclusive and mindful of collaboration across different time zones, and offer flexibility to help keep life in balance. Managers work closely with employees to accommodate requests for flexibility, as needed.

How is AI being integrated into Audible? expand_more
Even though there are millions of books currently in the world, only a fraction of them have been made into audiobooks. And yet audiobooks are the fastest-growing format in publishing. Authors, publishers, and creators face financial and other logistical barriers to having their audiobooks published, or published in other languages so they can reach listeners around the world. Audible is now offering ways for select publishers to bring new audiobooks to life through our own fully integrated AI production technology. Publishers can choose from Audible-managed end-to-end production, or self-service production.
We’re also currently beta testing pathways to AI translation that will bring more stories to listeners in more languages.
Visit our Newsroom to read more about Audible's innovations in this space, including offering customers the world’s first AI-powered audiobook search and the ways we are helping publishers and creators to make new content available using AI.
For employees, Audible offers access to Generative AI resources and tools to help support their day-to-day work and create greater efficiencies. We offer a robust array of workshops and demonstrations to teach employees how to use cutting-edge chatbots, virtual assistants and app builders to free up time and inspire innovation.

What is the full interview process? expand_more
After you apply online, we may ask for more materials to assess you, such as portfolio, a writing sample, a coding exercise, etc. If we identify a potential match with an Audible opportunity, we'll first schedule a phone interview with a recruiter. If you move to the next stage, you will talk with a hiring manager so they can get to know you better. The final step is an interview with a panel of Audible employees and leaders with whom you would work closely in the role.
At every step of the process, we’re committed to providing the most transparent and supported experience possible. To help, we’ve created this resource for people to learn more about Audible's interview process and how to prepare.

How should I prepare for my interview? expand_more
First, read up on Our People Principles. These are what guide us every day as a company, from decisions that impact our business, customers, and community right down to the candidates we hire. You should definitely consider what each principle means to you, specifically, and how you’ve applied them in your professional life.
A significant portion of each interview conversation will be dedicated to understanding how you’ve already been demonstrating Audible's People Principles in your own professional experiences. You should expect every interviewer to discuss multiple People Principles with you, and they may even ask multiple questions about each one.
We want to know how you’ve solved problems in the past, made decisions, motivated others, and changed your perspective on something. It’s generally a solid idea to use the STAR format for answering questions:
Situation – Describe the situation that you were in or the task that you needed to accomplish. Give enough detail for the interviewer to understand the complexities of the situation. This example can be from a previous job, school project, volunteer activity, or any relevant event.
Task - What goal were you working toward?
Action - Describe the actions you took to address the situation with an appropriate amount of detail, and keep the focus on you. Use the word “I,” not “we,” when describing actions, because we want to know about your particular contribution.
Result - Describe the outcome of your actions, and don’t be shy about taking credit for your behavior. How did the event end? What did you accomplish and learn? Provide examples using metrics or data if applicable.
-
How are the People Principles assessed?expand_more
People Principles questions are behavior-based. They ask about past experiences and challenges you’ve faced, as well as how you’ve handled them and what you learned from them. After all, your past behaviors are a great indicator of your future performance and success.
Interviewers focus on the “what” and “how” of your past experiences, as well as the “why” of your decisions along the way.
-
How should I best prepare for these questions?expand_more
First, consider some of the most memorable days in your previous professional experiences. Spend some time recalling the specific details of those circumstances (e.g., who, what, when, what challenges, what mistakes were made and corrected). Then, consider how you’ve applied one or more of the People Principles in those experiences.
Use specific examples to showcase your expertise, and demonstrate how you’ve taken risks, succeeded, failed and grown in the process. Keep in mind, some of Audible’s most successful programs have risen from the ashes of failed projects. Failure is a necessary part of innovation. It’s not optional. We understand that and believe in failing early and iterating until we get it right.
Download this guide to reflect on how you’ve already applied the People Principles in your professional experiences.
-
How do I respond to questions using the STAR method?expand_more
While there are many ways to answer an interview question, we suggest following the STAR method. The STAR method enables you to provide the interviewer with the information they need to evaluate your past experiences and behaviors to determine your potential for success in the role and at Audible. So, let's break down the STAR framework.
Situation
Provide context and background for the situation that you were in. You should describe a specific event or situation, not a generalized description. This example can be from a previous job, school project, volunteer activity, or any relevant event. Be sure to give enough detail for the interviewer to understand the complexities of the situation.
Task
Describe the task that you needed to accomplish. What goal were you working toward? Be sure to consider quantitative and qualitative goals.
Action
Describe the actions you took to address the situation with an appropriate amount of detail, and keep the focus on you. Use the word “I,” not “we,” when describing actions. What specific steps did you take? What was your particular contribution? Be careful that you don’t describe what the team or group did when talking about a project. Let us know what you actually did.
Result
Describe the outcomes of your actions and don't be shy about taking credit. You should be able to answer: What happened? How did you measure success? What results did achieve? What trade-offs did you have to make to achieve this? What did you learn or what would you have done differently?
Note: In the event your initial response does not include each component of the STAR framework, interviewers will ask numerous follow-up questions to get at each STAR component.
