Sound Bites with Roshin Ramachandran
Roshin Ramachandran is a Director of System Development who works out of Amazon's offices in Chennai, India, leading a team that provides monitoring support for Audible's technology services, helping to identify potential issues early. “There's a quiet pride in knowing your experience stays seamless because we got ahead of a problem you'll never even know existed,” he says. Get to know more about Roshin and his work here.
What is life like at the offices you work from?
I'm based out of Chennai, India. We're lucky to have some wonderful beaches nearby, which makes for a great change of scenery after work. The team here is genuinely friendly. We grab coffee and lunches together regularly, and we've got sports activities that keep things fun. Beyond that, we take part in volunteering efforts in the community. Recently we've been empowering local schools through STEM education programs, which has been incredibly rewarding.
How does your job contribute to Audible’s mission to surprise and delight listeners around the world? What is your biggest source of inspiration?
My team ensures the services that millions of Audible listeners depend on remain seamless. When a customer has a great experience on Audible, it's because we've been proactively watching over things so nothing breaks that trust. As for inspiration, I believe it comes from within. The company trusts us to act as owners, and that trust is a powerful motivator. When you're given real ownership, you don't need to look far for reasons to care deeply about what you do.
Can you share a bit about your career journey supporting Audible?
When I first started, I managed the Quality Services team, where I was responsible for manual testing across Audible’s products. From there, I moved into a director role leading Support Engineering, and eventually into my current role as Director of Systems Development. Each pivot wasn't really a dramatic leap. It was more about staying curious and always looking for ways to add something meaningful to the team and the work. I'd see a gap or an opportunity, lean into learning what was needed, and that curiosity naturally opened the next door.
How do you leverage Audible’s People Principles in your day-to-day work?
The People Principles are the backbone of how my team operates. They guide every decision we make, always bringing it back to what's in the best interest of the customer. Being “Customer Obsessed” shows up in how we proactively monitor and resolve issues before listeners are ever impacted. “Imagine and Invent Before They Ask” drives us to constantly look for better ways to do things — not waiting for problems to pile up, but anticipating what's next. And “Activate Caring” is something I take personally, whether it's building trust within the team or volunteering in our community. These principles give us a shared language and a compass, so even when decisions are tough, we know which direction to lean.
Have you participated in any community impact activities? What do those experiences bring to you, personally?
I've been fortunate to be involved in several community initiatives through Audible. We ran STEM education programs for local students, helped teach kids personal finance basics, and even helped reform a school, from wall painting to making sustainable study desks from recycled plastics from the ocean.
Personally, these experiences ground me. It's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day of tech work, but spending time with your team building furniture for kids who need it — you walk away feeling like you've contributed something that actually matters beyond the screen.
Other than the people, what do you love most about the culture at Audible?
What stands out to me is how genuinely empathetic the culture is. It's not just talk, Audible truly cares about the well-being of its employees, and you see that in the various programs designed to support you holistically. Also, what I love most is that everyone is empowered to make decisions. There's no culture of waiting for permission; you're trusted to own your space, take initiative, and drive things forward. That combination of care and empowerment is rare, and it makes you want to show up and give your best every day.
What’s one quality people interested in working on the System Development team need to be successful?
Our landscape evolves constantly, with new services, new challenges, and new ways of doing things. The people who thrive are the ones who embrace that rather than resist it. Pair that with a genuine customer focus, where every decision you make ties back to how it impacts the listener's experience, and you'll do really well. If you can stay curious, roll with ambiguity, and keep the customer at the center, you'll fit right in.
What advice would you have for a candidate considering Audible?
It's a great place to learn and contribute — genuinely. You'll be given real ownership from day one, and the opportunities to grow are there if you're willing to lean in. My advice would be to come with curiosity and a willingness to adapt, because the work here moves fast and touches millions of listeners. If you're someone who wants to make a meaningful impact and not just fill a seat, you'll love it.
What made you choose to work on a team supporting Audible, and what makes you want to stay?
There's a genuine care for employee well-being alongside the drive to delight millions of listeners, and that balance is rare to find. The growth opportunities are genuinely there if you're willing to lean in, and senior leadership is incredibly accessible. Your voice is heard, and that makes you feel like what you do truly matters.

Audible Epics: Lydia Diaz Reflects on 20 Years of Growth, Storytelling and Tech at Audible
When Lydia Diaz started working at Audible in 2005 as a customer care representative, “it was much smaller,” she says. “Maybe 20 people” were on her team. Back then, Audible’s offices occupied just two floors in Wayne, New Jersey, with tech, leadership and customer service all sitting near each other. Even as the company has grown—filling offices in Newark and around the world—Lydia says her team’s mission has stayed the same: to spread the joy of storytelling and make it easy to listen, no matter what you’re doing.
Audible's People Principles celebrate who we are and where we've been, and guide the way we work shoulder to shoulder to enhance the lives of our millions of customers around the world. They reflect and apply to everyone who works at Audible—the entrepreneurs and operators, the dreamers and the doers, those who have worked here for 25 years and those who have arrived in the past few weeks and months.
