Sound Bites with Diané García-Gaytán
Diané Garcia-Gaytan is a Support Engineering Manager who leads a team helping to reinforce security, compliance and fraud prevention. Working from Mexico City, she and her team ensure that customers’ personal data, payment information, and listening experience remain protected and private at every touchpoint.
What is life like at the hub you are aligned to?
I work out of Amazon’s Mexico City office, in the beautiful Polanco neighborhood. My team eats lunch together weekly, and we have fun outside of work regularly — for example, we recently challenged each other in a go-kart race!
What was your first Audible listen? What inspired you to check it out?
My Life on the Road by Gloria Steinem. I was drawn to it after watching her documentary. I can now confidently say that Audible changed my life, as it opened the door to literature that I might’ve stayed away from otherwise.
Can you share a bit about your career journey?
I spent over six years at Amazon, where I had the opportunity to lead teams in North America, then in July 2025, I relocated to Mexico City to support Audible’s service as an Amazon Support Engineering Manager. I lead a team of engineers that has quadrupled in just a couple of months. I’m excited about the challenges that we face and the innovative solutions the team delivers.
Can you share about your employee experience and the transition to your new role?
I’ve been super lucky to have leaders who are truly invested in seeing me and my peers grow our skills and careers. Throughout my transition to supporting Audible, I was fully supported by leaders and the recruiting team.
How do you draw inspiration from culture and technology?
Curiosity plays a big part. I make a conscious effort to understand and help others by learning about anything and everything. In my line of work, it’s crucial to be comfortable facing learning curves, and I meet such challenges with glee as I know they help me grow both personally and professionally. As a leader, I also enable my team to prioritize exploration, curiosity and learning. I believe that this set of tools brings motivation to their day-to-day work, just as it inspires me to continue to deliver for them.
Can you describe any community impact activities you’ve participated in? What do those experiences bring to you, personally?
I recently participated in a disaster relief activity, where I had the opportunity to contribute to my community by building kits for families in need. Thanks to my mom, helping the community has always been an important part of my life. She would rally us into helping her deliver groceries and gifts to people in need, inspiring us to help whenever and however you can.
What’s one quality people interested in working on your team need to be successful here?
Curiosity. All around us, technology is continuously evolving, and staying curious allows us to explore innovative solutions. Success requires being open to learning and evolving all the time.

Audible Epics: Lydia Diaz Reflects on 20 Years of Growth, Storytelling and Tech at Audible
When Lydia Diaz started working at Audible in 2005 as a customer care representative, “it was much smaller,” she says. “Maybe 20 people” were on her team. Back then, Audible’s offices occupied just two floors in Wayne, New Jersey, with tech, leadership and customer service all sitting near each other. Even as the company has grown—filling offices in Newark and around the world—Lydia says her team’s mission has stayed the same: to spread the joy of storytelling and make it easy to listen, no matter what you’re doing.
