What is life like at the hub you are aligned to?
I am a recent transplant to the Newark area and it has been very kind to me. Branch Brook Park is a local refuge for me and I’ve had the opportunity to get to know other areas of the neighborhood through social and volunteer events.
How does the work you do affect listeners or colleagues across different markets worldwide?
My team works across multiple countries and time zones to facilitate operations for Audible’s marketplaces around the world. Though that can present some challenges with communicating collaboratively, it ensures that we’re always close to the locations we work with and can act quickly to address the needs of our customers, internal and external. We coordinate with each other to align on and mirror processes as much as possible to facilitate cross-functional support.
Can you share a bit about your career journey at Audible?
In 2017, I transitioned to Audible from a different Amazon-owned company. I started in Customer Care as a team manager followed by customer support for Audible’s Audiobook Creation Exchange (ACX). I then briefly worked with the Learning and Development team before doing a rotation on Content Operations that led to a full-time role. Being able to work with multiple teams and talented individuals has offered me diverse, valuable perspectives.
What made you choose to work at Audible and what makes you want to stay?
I chose to join Audible due to the work culture, a general enthusiasm for digital media, and my prior experience. The people I’ve worked with and come to know have absolutely been motivation for me to stay. My colleagues are talented and inspiring, and they challenge me to keep learning and putting my best foot forward.
Other than the people, what do you love most about the culture here?
Audible’s drive to champion our People Principle of “Activate Caring” and to focus on employee wellness. We are all human and juggling our own unique struggles daily. Leading with kindness and having resources to both offer and receive care is a boon.
What are the benefits you find invaluable for your personal well-being, or that help make both your work life and personal life more fulfilling?
I am so grateful I was able to take advantage of Audible’s tuition reimbursement while working towards my Masters degree. It was instrumental in allowing me financial peace of mind while juggling work and school. It made all the difference.
What’s one quality people interested in working on the Deal Operations team need to be successful here?
Attention to detail and a desire to improve processes. We are heavily reliant on the little things to keep the engines running smoothly and efficiently for both the customer and for the business. If by some miracle you happen to enjoy reading terms and conditions in your spare time, that contractual knowledge is a nice bonus!
How did you first get involved with Audible’s employee-led Impact Group Unidos?
In 2022, after reading about Unidos and its aims, I requested membership. The mission statement of the group motivated me with the prospect of being part of a relatable cultural community here at Audible and broadening my horizons. Unidos also provided a space to reflect on current events that were negatively impacting our wellness.
Why do you think it’s important to have Impact Groups like Unidos?
In an era of increasing division and strife, Impact Groups like Unidos have the ability to move the needle and make a difference, personally and professionally, by serving as a positive force in our day-to-day. As the word implies, Unidos represents opportunity for connection, communal identity and solidarity. Hispanic people are not a monolith, much like any other ethnicity, but Unidos reminds us that we are stronger together. It is empowering to know we are not alone; that we can together break bread, share our love of audiobooks or other media, commiserate, give back, and champion successes and positive representation through our shared identity.
Unidos recently hosted a volunteer event at Franciscan Charities, where members of different Impact Groups at Audible helped with a back-to-school backpack giveaway for many in the community. It was a humbling act of service and a great opportunity to meet other members of Unidos and other Impact Groups at Audible.
